Fried tacos are also known as ‘crunchy tacos’ or ‘tacos dorados’ are delicious variations of the classic taco.

Ingredients
  

  • For the Tacos:
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1 lb 450g ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese cheddar, Monterey Jack, or your choice
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro optional
  • For Frying:
  • Vegetable oil enough for frying, about 2 cups
  • For Serving:
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa or pico de gallo
  • Sliced jalapeños optional

Instructions
 

  • In a pan, cook the minced garlic and chopped onion over medium flame until they turn soft, it may take around 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until brown, break it up using a spoon as it cooks.
  • Mix in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt and pepper and cook for 2 more minutes to let the flavors blend together.
  • You can also mix in the chopped cilantro and shredded cheese, then remove it from the heat.
  • In a dry skillet, heat the tortillas for few seconds each side until pliable and soft. Put some filling in the middle of the tortillas.
  • Fold each tortilla in half, then press down gently to seal. You can also use a toothpick to close them.
  • In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high flame. Use enough oil to submerge at least half of the tacos.
  • Once the oil is hot in the pan, put the folded tacos in it. Ensure to fry the tacos in batches, prevent overcrowding. Cook them for around 2-3 minutes per side, until crispy and golden brown.
  • Use tongs or slotted spoon to take out the tacos and then put them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • It’s time to serve the tacos with your favourite toppings such as diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, salsa, sour cream and chopped jalapenos.
