Green Seasoning Recipe

Green Seasoning is a well known blend of fresh herbs and spices used to add flavor to a lot of dishes mainly in South African and Caribbean cuisines.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 bunch fresh cilantro
  • 1 bunch fresh parsley
  • 1 bunch fresh thyme
  • 1 bunch green onions scallions
  • 1 small onion roughly chopped
  • 1 head garlic peeled
  • 1 small bell pepper roughly chopped
  • 1-2 Scotch bonnet peppers adjust to taste
  • 1/4 cup olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup vinegar or lime juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • First of all, wash and roughly chop the thyme, parsley, cilantro and green onions. Chop the bell pepper, onion and scotch bonnet peppers roughly. Peel the garlic cloves.
  • In a food processor or a blender add the chopped onions, herbs, bell pepper, garlic and scotch bonnet peppers. Pour in the olive oil and lime juice or vinegar.
  • Mix until it forms a smooth paste, stopping to scrape down to ensure everything is well blended.
  • Include salt and pepper according to your taste and blend again to mix. You can store the green seasoning into an air-tight container or in a clean jar.
  • You can store it in the refrigerator for up to 15 days.
