Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz 340g pasta (penne, rigatoni, or your choice)
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for a bit of heat
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream or pasta water optional for a creamier sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Freshly chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
  • Lemon zest for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

  • In a water pot add the salt and boil it. Add the pasta and cook as per the package instruction until it is thoroughly cooked. Add the broccoli to the water around 4-5 minutes before the pasta is done. It lets the broccoli cook until tender. Once everything is done, you can reserve a cup of pasta water for letr use, then drain the broccoli and pasta together.
  • In a large pan, warm the olive oil over medium flame. Add red pepper flakes and minced garlic. Cook until the garlic turns golden brown and smells nice, it may take around 1-2 minutes. Avoid burning the garlic.
  • Add broccoli and drained pasta to the pan with oil and garlic. Toss everything thoroughly so that the broccoli and pasta are coated with the garlic oil. For a creamy sauce, you can stir in the heavy cream or the reserved pasta water.
  • You can season the pasta with salt and pepper to match your taste. Mix in the grated parmesan cheese to let it melt into the pasta.
  • Transfer the pasta to the serving plates and top it with lime zest and chopped parsley. You can also serve it with more parmesan cheese on the side.
