London Broil Crockpot

London broil is a specific cooking method rather than a special meat piece. It involves marinating a tough cut of meat such as top-round steak or flank steak. Marinate and then cook them quickly over medium heat. The key is to slice the meat against the grain to ensure it is tender.

In a London broil crockpot recipe, first of all, the meat gets seasoned with spices or marinade. Then, it is cooked in the crockpot with garlic, onions with a liquid like balsamic vinegar, soy sauce or beef broth to make it juicy and delicious. Slow cooking not only makes the meat tender but also helps in blending all the flavours.

London Broil Crock Pot Recipe Tips

  • Choose the Right Cut: London broil is prepared from tough meats such as top-round steak or flank steak. These meats should be cooked slowly in a crockpot to ensure tenderness.

  • Marinate for flavour: For extra tenderness and flavour, make sure to marinade the London broil before cooking. You can either prepare your own marinade with garlic, herbs, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce or use a store-bought marinade. Marinating the meat overnight in the refrigerator helps in soaking up the flavours.

Storing and freezing

Storing

  • If you are planning to consume the leftovers within a few days, let the broil cool at room temperature. You can either wrap it in a plastic wrap or transfer it to an air-tight container.
  • You can store it in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
  • Make sure to store the gravy from the crock pot separately.
  • Make sure to label the container or the bags with the date to keep track of the freshness.

Freezing

  • Let the London broil cool completely before freezing. It prevents ice crystals from forming and preserves the flavour and texture of the meat.
  • If you are not planning to consume the leftovers at once, you can portion them into smaller servings before freezing.
  • Make sure to label the container with the contents and date to ease the identification later on.

Instructions

  • If the london broil doesn’t fit to the crockpot, you can slice it into little pieces. Then, season the meat with salt and pepper generously on both the sides of the meat.
  • Put the minced garlic and sliced onions in the bottom of slow cooker. Then, put the seasoned broil on top of the onions.
  • In a bowl, mix soy sauce, beef broth, dried thyme, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, dried rosemary and red pepper flakes. Mix them all until well combined.
  • Now, pour the sauce all over the london broil in the crockpot by ensuring that the meat is evenly coated.
  • Place a lid on the crockpot and let it cook over low heat for 6-8 hours or over high heat for around 3-4 hours. The cooking time may vary according to the thickness of the London broil and your crockpot.
  • About halfway through cooking, inspect the meat to check it’s doneness. Make sure to cook the London broil to medium-rare to medium for better flavor and texture. For this, you can use a meat thermometer to measure the internal temperature that should be around 135 F (57 C) for medium-rare and 145 F (63 C) for medium.
